Masseria by Nicholas Stefanelli a critically acclaimed, Southern Italian, fine dining restaurant in the Union Market District of Washington DC is seeking a Sommelier to help manage its 1,000+ label wine list. Masseria received its' first Michelin-star in 2016 and features four and five course prix fixe menus, as well as six, and eight course tasting menus in an intimate, open kitchen setting. We are open Tuesday through Saturday and closed for several weeks in January and September. We offer competitive pay, health insurance, and educational reimbursement.

Candidates Should:

  • Demonstrate a strong desire to learn and improve

  • Possess excellent computer skills (inDesign, BinWise, Avero, and Microsoft Excel)

  • 2 years of fine dining experience in various roles. 

  • Have a thorough understanding of fine dining service standards.

  • Successful completion of the Certified Sommelier Exam or through the Court of Master Sommeliers preferred.

  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of Italian food and wine

  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of the classic wine regions of the world, along with basic knowledge of beer, spirits, cocktails, and cigars

  • Understanding of food and wine pairing and comfortable speaking in front of large groups

  • Understanding of finance models (COGS, Analysis, and Problem Solving)

  • Able to physically carry wine boxes 42+ lbs
